What a great concert! We enjoyed a repeat visit with Audrey Assad. She brought her beautiful piano and voice to our home for a night of worship with songs right out of the mundane ordinariness of life, with plenty of sing-along moments.
This time Audrey was touring in support of her new album, Fortunate Fall. It was just Audrey and piano, and yet that simplicity hightlights the deeply worshipful songs found on the new record. She describes the new record this way: "This record is a collection of songs arranged for both corporate, sung prayer, and personal, private devotion. It borrows from the Church's traditions of music and prayer, utilizing some of its traditional instruments as well as some of its traditional forms and intersecting with the spirit of the charismatic renewal. Songs range from chant and hymns to more modern praise and worship." Regardless of what she brings musically, it is sure to be thoughtful, reflective, celebratory, and God-ward.
And that's what got: depth. A rich evening of thoughtful music. Worship in the broadest sense. Being informed by an artist's perspective. And then talking with and enjoying being with each other.
As a special treat, we also enjoyed a three-song set from up and coming songwriter, John Tibbs, who is on tour with Audrey. I think you'll enjoy his Mumford and Sons kind of sound. Check out "Anchor" here.
