Wow. What a special privilege it was to have the talented and gifted Sara Groves with us in the intimate setting of a home on Thursday, October 20th. This was the only house concert on Sara's Reason to Gather Tour this Fall, a tour she shared with special guests Audrey Assad and Jenny & Tyler. And what an evening it was. We were packed out with 70 attendees, with 29 people who wanted to come but couldn't due to space limitations. How great it was to hang out with Sara, Audrey, and Jenny & Tyler afterwards. Does it get any better?
Sara's last album release, Fireflies and Songs, was voted album of the year by the editors of Christianity Today. One reviewer said that "...Fireflies and Songs celebrates all that's best in relationships as well as the mundanity of life, helps conquer fears, rejoice in triumphs, and encourages our determination to remain on the right path." Her music is uplifting while at the same time avoiding sentimentality, earthy and yet testifying to the presence of the transcendant. Pure, innocent, moving --- all of those words capture something of what her music conveys.
Well, if you were there, you know what I mean. And if not, book your seats for Sara's slightly larger "house" concert at Raleigh's Fletcher Opera Hall on February 11, 2012. It's a benefit for Amazing Grace Adoptions and Orphan Care, so just know that a significant portion of your ticket cost and gifts over and above that cost on the night of the concert will benefit this worthy cause. See you there!
